Modernadada
In their debut concept album Modernadada, Maxi Glamour is creating a universe all their own. The album title has two meanings; Modernadada is a fantasy realm Glamour crafts and explores in their music, as well as the name they have coined for their own unique art genre - a modern take on the radical disruption of Dadaism. Modernadada takes the listener on a journey through a “delirium of transcendental thought and expression,” guided by Glamour’s own mission to challenge every societal norm. Kicked out as a teen and homeless for much of their early twenties, they have some ideas about how the whole system should be torn down. This album is a first battle-cry in this black, trans artist’s crusade to dismantle the society that marginalizes them. Modernadada on its surface is an allegory for self-actualization. Maxi’s journey into the land of Modernadada reflects a journey to discover personal purpose, a theme that they have contemplated for much of quarantine. The album is shot through with tension and struggle from their life experiences – their journey from homelessness to security, their run on reality TV, recent social-political events in the United States, and the terror of the COVID-19 pandemic.
